  • Mechanical completion – Confirmation of the manufacture, assembly, and non-functional testing of a specific system or installation on site to confirm the integrity of the construction and installation.
  • Pre-commissioning – preliminary efforts to test and verify individual units, systems, and/or subsystems within a logical area to ensure that the components of any given system and/or subsystem function as designed.
  • Mechanical completion task list – list of items from all disciplines, discovered during the pre-commissioning review, that must be completed before commissioning.
  • Getting started – involves the operation and testing of all areas of each system to ensure that the system is functioning as expected and to correct any remaining issues prior to the operational start-up of the plant.
  • Start-up – the start of actual operations at the plant.
  • Performance tests – checks and benchmarks designed to evaluate the plant's performance in a stable production state, usually after a few months of operation. These are sometimes referred to as “bank tests.”
